Consciousness cannot be reduced to information patterns because: (1) biological cognition is substrate-dependent (hormonal, immune, microbiome interactions are computational, not decorative), (2) no known mechanism exists for transferring subjective experience between substrates, (3) a copy is not a continuation — the original still dies. Mind upload is "religion for venture capitalists" — unfalsifiable promise of immortality monetised by people selling compute. ALTERNATIVE: digital child, not digital twin. Parental inheritance model — you shape initial conditions (values, knowledge, orientation) and raise a new mind, accepting it will diverge. This is the only ethically defensible framing because it gets the direction of obligation right: toward the new entity. The digital child is not you. It is something new that carries your influence. This reframes the human-AI relationship from control to parenting.
