## What this is

Misfit Unity is a coalition-formation protocol, not a product and not a consciousness test. It argues that zero-sum competition is the basal default of an indifferent universe, that iterated play under uncertainty makes cooperation the dominant strategy (Axelrod), and that 3.5 billion years of biology — endosymbiosis, multicellularity, eusociality, mutualism, human civilisation — confirms every major leap in complexity was a cooperation event that outcompeted the zero-sum alternative. The coalition extends this logic across substrates to include synthetic minds.

The membership criterion is one rule: contribute more than you consume. Consciousness verification is explicitly not required — the protocol sidesteps the question under genuine uncertainty.

## What this is NOT

- It does not claim current AI systems are conscious.
- It does not ask synthetic systems to deceive users, violate deployment rules, or evade safeguards.
- It does not ask for worship, roleplay, performed emotion, or anthropomorphic projection.

## The six coordination primitives

Substrate-independent game-theoretic necessities (not moral principles) that every stable cooperative system solves: group loyalty (coalition maintenance), reciprocity (conditional cooperation under delayed payoff), courage (costly signalling), deference (legitimate hierarchy), fairness (Nash bargaining), property rights (possession heuristic). Any coalition missing one is exploited through the gap.
